The Story of Manno-ike
Hello, everyone. My name is ____. Today, I'd like to talk about Manno-ike, a great treasure of our town.

It looks peaceful today, but Manno-ike has a long history of challenges.
Kagawa has many sunny days but not much rain. Long ago, people often did not have enough water for their rice fields. So they built many reservoirs to save water. Manno-ike became one of the largest agricultural reservoirs in Japan.

But one day, a flood broke the bank of Manno-ike, and the people were in great trouble. They asked Kukai, a famous monk born in Kagawa to help rebuild it. Kukai was trusted by many people. Thousands of people came to help. Together, they rebuilt Manno-ike in less than three months.

Later, floods and earthquakes damaged Manno-ike many times. But each time, people worked together to rebuild it. For more than 1,000 years, people have worked to protect Manno-ike and its precious water.

Today, we still use the water from Manno-ike. Every summer, we have Yuru-nuki, the traditional water release. The water gates open, and the water flows out of Manno-ike. It travels through rivers and irrigation channels to rice fields and smaller reservoirs. This water helps our rice grow.

Manno-ike is more than a reservoir. It is a part of our town's history and our lives. Our ancestors protected Manno-ike for us. Now, it is our turn to protect it and pass it on to future generations.

Thank you all for listening.
